Dalmatian islands continue to shell the
Yugoslav mainland. The Germans report
hard fighting in the area of Belgrade and
after taking Pancsova Russian troops
are less than 8 miles from the city.
Tito's forces are active south of Belgrade
but the Russians are nearest to the capital.
The Germans report 3 new Russian moves
viz. one attack from a bridgehead on the
Narew between Warsaw and the Southern
frontier of East Prussia also a large scale attack
in Northern Lithuania and a landing on the
island of Ösel. Moscow confirms the landing
and says the Russians secured a bridgehead
25 miles wide and 15 miles deep. From
the Carpathian heavy rain and the
first fall of snow is reported. The South of
Greece is almost clear of the Germans.
The port of Patras is in serviceable
condition. Half a dozen miles east of
Patras another port has been taken.
More Allied reinforcements have been
landed. The Germans try to get away
across the Gulf of Corinth. We have
accepted the surrender of a Greek
security battalion. German guns
captured at Patras have been turned
and are being used against them.
