Mines were also laid in enemy waters and only 3 of our
bombers are missing. Over 2000 aircraft viz 1250
Fortresses and Liberators escorted by up to 1000
fighters attacked Berlin, Hamburg and Western
Germany today. The planes made a round flight
of 1400 miles and they attacked oil plants in the
Ruhr. Oil refineries, 2 aircraft engine works,
tank factories, 2 ordinance deports, 1 military
depot and 3 airbases. Weather was favourable
and bombing result were excellent. The
food position in Belgium and France has
improved but it is largely a transport problem.
4000 head of cattle arrived at Paris and
the Allies have placed 3000 lorries at the
disposal of Paris for food supplies. The Belgian
bread ration has been increased and potatoes
are derationed. Belgian railways are in
full working order and food has priority
over all another imports as soon as the ports are
in working order. From Italy local gains
are reported. 2 more towns have been captured
in the advance on Bologna. Bad weather
checks progress and the 8th Army have
captured high ground N.W. of Rimini.
Portugal, Spain and Sweden have accepted
diplomatic representatives from the
