They have come up to heavy artillery fire but pushed on another mile near Stolberg. Southeast of Aachen a German counterattack has been slung back. Fighting still takes place round Metz. From east of Nancy to Belfort stiff local engagements are being fought. Last night barges between Cologne and the Zuyderzee were being shot up. A strong force of escorted Lancasters bombed Wilhelmshafen this morning. 1 Lancaster is missing. More than 1000 Flying Fortresses and Liberators attacked marshalling yards at Cologne and 3 airfields in Western Germany this morning. They were escorted by between 500 and 750 long range fighters, on account of clouds results could not be seen.
