in Norway. U-boats and pens, some of which were
still unfinished, were attacked. 1 bomber is
missing. At the request of the French Red Cross
the Germans have allowed a truce at Dunkirk
so that some 20.000 civilians can leave
before the attack begins. The truce is a 60 hour
one and begins at 6 o'clock this morning.
12 hours are allowed to clear a road through
the minefield, 36 hours to the civilians to
get out and another 12 hours to restore the
defences. Between 500 and 750 Flying Fortresses
and Liberators escorted by Mustangs and
Lightnings from Italy today attacked railway
yards at Munich. There was intense flak
but no German planes were seen. In
Italy the 5th Army is making steady progress
in its drive toward the Po Valley and we are
16 airline miles from Bologna. On the 8th Army
front everything but patrolling is impossible
on account of rain and swollen rivers.
Between the Southern frontier of Hungary
and the Danube Russian troops are to the
north, northeast and east 35 to 40 miles from
Belgrade. South of the Danube the Russians
are broadening their advance but the going
is hard. Yugoslav people are giving the Russians
all help. The capture of Dagö has been completed.
