in Norway. U-boats and pens, some of which were still unfinished, were attacked. 1 bomber is missing. At the request of the French Red Cross the Germans have allowed a truce at Dunkirk so that some 20.000 civilians can leave before the attack begins. The truce is a 60 hour one and begins at 6 o'clock this morning. 12 hours are allowed to clear a road through the minefield, 36 hours to the civilians to get out and another 12 hours to restore the defences. Between 500 and 750 Flying Fortresses and Liberators escorted by Mustangs and Lightnings from Italy today attacked railway yards at Munich. There was intense flak but no German planes were seen. In Italy the 5th Army is making steady progress in its drive toward the Po Valley and we are 16 airline miles from Bologna. On the 8th Army front everything but patrolling is impossible on account of rain and swollen rivers. Between the Southern frontier of Hungary and the Danube Russian troops are to the north, northeast and east 35 to 40 miles from Belgrade. South of the Danube the Russians are broadening their advance but the going is hard. Yugoslav people are giving the Russians all help. The capture of Dagö has been completed. Russian troops gained ground in Transylvania.
