East of Nijmegen the German attacks are from
the Reichs Wood. Nearer Antwerp the Canadians
are extending their bulge. General Eisenhower
sent a message of praise and thanks to the
Belgian underground movement. Russian
forced labourers to work in the Belgian
coalmines have escaped and fought as
partisans in the Ardennes with weapons
stolen from the Germans. They lived on
the hunt. Eisenhower says to keep clear of
low lying land and military targets.
Last night a 2000 tons ammunition
ship was hit. In the engagement with the
German convoy an armed trawler
was set on fire. The Free German Radio
station from Moscow broadcast against
Nazi rats who may try to leave the sinking
ship for Spain or South America.
For the 1st time since 4 months the Russian
communique of tonight mentions no
important change anywhere on the
Russian front. Russian troops are
85 miles from Belgrade and Tito's
forces have got contact with Russian
forces. In Italy the weather is a little
better so that for the first time in nearly
