Bombing was done by instruments. Our
night bombers attacked Brunswick. Mosquitoes
attacked rail and canal targets in Holland.
A fierce and spirited naval action was
fought off IJmuiden when our motor torpedo-boats
met a strongly escorted German
convoy. 2 of 3 German ships were hit
and two of our motor torpedo-boats
lost. We had some casualties. General
Eisenhower warned Dutch islanders on
the islands in the Scheldt mouth for heavy
air attacks on military targets. Several
radio stations on Walcheren were destroyed
and Mosquitoes attacked shipping.
In our drives to the Po Valley we are
meeting stubborn resistance and small
local gains were made. On the 8th Army
front there was patrolling on both sides.
German efforts to get their men away
from islands in the Aegean by plane are
made very costly to them. In Yugoslavia
the Russians are driving on toward
Niš. The Russian air force is more
active in various parts of Poland.
