Torrential rain and bitter cold are
reported from Italy. 11 miles on the Bologna
road from Rimini Savignano has been
cleared of the enemy. Bad weather restricted
flying too. Pontoon bridges across the river
Po were attacked. The Russians are with
strong forces in Yugoslavia and across
the Danube near Turnu Severin. Russian
forces are preparing for the final assault on
Riga. Heavy fighting still takes place in the
centre of Warsaw.
At a press conference in Moscow the appointment
of General Barr as Commander in
Chief of the Polish forces was described as
crazy. In Burma the British 14th Army
has regained contact with the Japanese.
Joseph Macleod read the war report. The
first one was about the long range German
artillery fire on Dover and the correspondent
said that Dover is a sorry sight. Nearly
every wall in the town bears signs of shellfire.
A Canadian officer next gave a description
about British coastal long range guns in action
in the attack against Calais and when this
report was still being read the lights went out
again at 10.20 pm.
