Wardell read the news but due to insufficient light I could not take down everything. The German was still upstairs as he has his day off today and hangs about the house all afternoon and evening. Growing battles are reported from Holland. The Germans counterattacked northwest of Nijmegen but our rocket firing typhoons attacked their tanks etc. Big battles will have to be fought to break through the German crust. The Germans reported Frank Gillard are hand to mouth with men and weapons and they use flak artillery 88 m/m but these guns are getting warm too fast. Northeast of Nancy a German counterattack was thrown back. French troops are advancing in the Belfort gap. Calais has been liberated but mopping up in the cellars may go on for another day or so. 11500 tons of bombs were dropped on its defences in a week's time. Mosquitoes last night attacked transport in the Ruhr and the North of Holland and also carried out an attack in Hamburg. a 4000 ton supply ship was sunk off the N. German coast by
