12/9/1944. 9.= am.
American 1st Army troops in reasonable
strength have advanced 5 miles into Germany.
Driving on from Luxembourg they reached
a point in the Rhineland north of Trier
in the heart of the Siegfried line. British 2nd
Army troops have smashed through
German defences along the Albert Canal
east of Antwerp and patrols are over the
Dutch border south of Eindhoven.
Between these sectors German resistance
has stiffened in front of Aachen but
American forces have pushed on toward
Germany. American 3rd Army troops
are still engaged in bitter fighting along
the Moselle front. Yesterday a Third Army
patrol made contact south of Troyes
with American 7th Army men. French
troops completed the liberation of
Dijon. Other 7th Army forces cut the last
main road leading into Belfort
gap from the South. On the Channel
coast Canadian troops extended their
bridgehead across the Ghent Canal.
Polish troops made a new crossing and
took 1200 prisoners. U.K. troops have
won high ground north of Le Havre.
