Allied troops are now fighting on German
soil. West of Dijon troops of the Third Army
have made contact with troops of the
7th Army. In the West of Italy there is a
General advance toward the Gothic line.
The Russians have fought close to Launsche [?].
It has just been announced that troops
of the American 1st Army are some
miles north of Trier on German soil
and 5 miles into Germany. 2 columns
of the British Second Army are across the
Dutch border south of Eindhoven. Last night
they secured a bridgehead on the Scheldt -
Meuse Canal and this morning they
crossed into Holland. Fighting still
takes place at Geel. Verviers 10 miles
from Aachen has been captured and
there is stubborn resistance between
Liège and Luxembourg. There is stiff
opposition too on the Moselle river.
9 waves of Havocs and Marauders
went to the area of Metz. Ghent has been
cleared and we are closing in on Bruges.
North East of Le Havre high ground has been
won. In Brest the Germans have been forced
into the old city which is their last line
of defence. We now have a front from the
