In the South we are 50 miles from Lyon. West of the Rhone Alès has been captured and we are 5 miles across the French - Italian frontier. We penetrated the outer strong points of the Gothic line in 3 separate places. We are also in Pesaro but troops of the 8th Army share the place with the Germans. Godfrey Talbot reporting said the Germans resist strongly but things go more than satisfactory. The Germans in Romania are in flight. They lost thousands of men and 7000 have surrendered with another General. Mediterranean planes bombed airfields in Romania destroying 60 planes on the ground. At midday today the Prime Minister of Bulgaria said that his Government had resigned. Fighting takes place between Germans and Croats against the Bulgars. The Germans do not admit the loss of Bucharest. John Alexander Cruickshank was in the 210th Squadron Coastal Command born in Aberdeen in 1920 and now living in Edinburgh. At 2 o'clock this morning German batteries opened up which fire lasted 4 to 5 hours. His Excellency the Polish ambassador spoke after the news.
