Troops from the Leopold Canal are within
6 miles of the coast. On the Western end of
Walcheren another dyk was bombed
this afternoon. North of Metz fierce
fighting takes place. In Brussels large
numbers of German maps for the
British Isles were found. They contain
large scale street plans of every British
city. A sort of guidebook is also
attached to them. It must have taken
the Germans years to prepare these.
Most of them are from 1940 and 1941
but some are up to date to the end
of 1943. The Germans announce a
large scale attack by the Russians
against East Prussia who are said
to advance on a 25 miles front
along the railway from Komasko [?] to
Königsberg which leads through
Insterburg. North of Warsaw the Germans
claim a defensive success. The Germans
say that the Hungarian Regent Horthy
is still alive and in Budapest.
The leaders of the Arrow Cross in
Budapest however do not tell the same
story as Berlin. Budapest has repeated
broadcasting appeals to the troops to
