The German High Command ordered the defence of Bologna and are concentrating heavy artillery against the American 5th Army. Our bombers from Italy attacked the targets for the second day in succession and those at Vienna were industrial targets. The Japanese sent about 250 planes to attack U.S. ships and 160 of these were shot down. Slight damage was done to American ships and there were a few casualties. Japanese merchant ships sailing with the Japanese fleet raced into Hong Kong where they were attacked by our planes. The Whitepaper on International air transport was published today on the 1st of November. A conference on Civil Aviation will open at Chicago. Restrictions on army leave have been lifted. The T.U.C. at Blackpool approved the regulations by Parliament earlier in the report against agitators.
