The 1st Canadian Army who landed behind the German lines across the Scheldt are already relieving pressure against the Canadians in their bridgehead across the Leopold Canal. Bochum in the Ruhr was attacked last night. Canadian troops advancing north of Antwerp have reached the road and railway leading into the isles in the Scheldt estuary. On the Leopold Canal the Canadians improved their bridgeheads. Those across the Braakman are firmly ashore and advanced 2 1/2 miles. Yesterday the German fire slackened. Canadian forces are 3 1/2 miles from Bergen op Zoom. A German attack west of Nijmegen was repelled with heavy loss. 5 miles northeast of Aachen a strong German attack was repelled. 15 miles southeast of the town the Americans held their lines. General Patton's forces secured local successes over the Moselle and captured 4 small towns. The fantastic battle for the Metz fortress continues. Iron doors leading into the tunnels have to be burnt
