open. Halifaxes went to Bochum last night.
The railway yards there handle some 12000
wagons a day. Wilhelmshafen was also
attacked and night fighters supported the
bombers by shooting up airfields. Flying
bombs came over twice during the night and
these caused damage and casualties.
The Russians have now captured all
but a tiny part of Ösel. The Russian
offensive toward Memel is developing
well. Half of some 20 to 30 German
divisions in the Baltic which means
120000 men may be cut off. Russian
are now a dozen miles or so from
Memel and they are also pressing
forward to the East Prussian border.
A German strong point on the Northern
bank of the Njemen has also fallen.
For the 4th day running the Germans
make big efforts against the Russian
bridgehead on the Narev. In the previous
day 94 German tanks were destroyed.
Over a length of 25 miles the railway
from Budapest to Debrecen has been
cut. Debrecen itself is being threatened
by a column a little to the South West.
