Belfort. Some Germans are holding out on high
ground near Boulogne. German resistance
at Calais and Dunkirk is slackening.
Escorted Fortresses and Liberators today
attacked Mainz and Koblenz.
News from the Baltic comes from the
Germans who say the Russians continued
their attacks with fresh reinforcements
along a front of 200 miles on some
points of which the Germans were driven
back 40 miles. Riga is being closely threatened
and German relief attempts had no
success. There is no German bombing
of Warsaw and also less shelling.
In Southern Poland the Czechoslovak
frontier has been reached at a new
place and sharper actions are being
fought in Slovakia. Railway targets
in Hungary were attacked last night
by planes from Italy. Also railway bridges
near Budapest. The night before last
Russian bombers also attacked the
capital. Spitfires shot up a convoy of
some 200 vehicles and tanks near
Salonika and more naval activity
is reported from the Aegean where a British
