and the Southern counties. Le Havre has been bombed
heavily. The Germans say tonight it is also being
bombarded from the sea.
Canadian infantry is in Zeebrugge and they
have also reached Blankenberge. We are also
closing in on Bruges. Fresh gains were made
north of Antwerp. North of Aachen there is only
a German fort every 2 miles. The enemy's rout is
over. There is again small cohesion amongst
his troops and they are resisting stubbornly.
The British 2nd Army is meeting more
organised resistance but they are enlarging
their 2 bridgeheads across the Albert Canal
and building these up. We are less than 10
miles from Aachen and have crossed into
the Duchy of Luxembourg. The Americans have
5 bridgeheads across the Moselle and hard
fighting took place along the river today.
Last night Lancasters attacked Mönchengladbach
50 miles ahead of our armies and also
Brunswick. More than 1100 Flying Fortresses
and Liberators today attacked targets in
Stuttgart, Nuremberg and Klin [?]. Thunderbolts
attacked airfields in Western Germany. In
Eastern France French troops are pushing into
Dijon. They are meeting stiff opposition from
German troops which have come from Bordeaux.
