on the Adriatic and 8th Army patrols have crossed the river Foglia. Red Army troops have entered Bucharest. Messages from Ankara say Bulgaria has closed the frontier with Turkey. In the South West Pacific Allied aircraft have sunk or seriously damaged a Japanese destroyer and 4 merchant vessels. A few flying bombs were directed against Southern England early this morning. There is evidence that the enemy are launching the missiles from more northerly bases. RAF Mosquitoes last night attacked Dusseldorf.

Reports that the Americans have liberated Verdun have been confirmed by the Germans who say we have already pushed beyond it. On various points we are less than 20 miles from the Belgian border on a front of 150 miles. The German 7th Army is not any longer capable to resist. General Eberbach commanding it is in our hands. We have a 12 miles bridgehead over the Somme. General Patton's men rushed with a 35 miles an hour speed to Verdun. In the last war the Germans tried in vain for
