troops are 20 miles up the river Epte. General Eisenhower today at his press conference in London spoke about the battle of Paris. The status of General Bradley is now equal to that of General Montgomery. Montgomery is dealing with the Germans on the left and Bradley with them in the centre. General Eisenhower said Montgomery was a great personal friend and one of the great soldiers of this or any other war. The so called parade in Paris was not a parade at all but a march through. 85 days after D-day we are well ahead of what we expected after 90 days. He also had a special word of praise for the "Maquis". If the Germans withdrew quickly to the Siegfried line he said there might be a battle there. Moreover he still kept to what he prophesied a year ago that Germany could be beaten this year. In the South of France the Germans are in flight between Valence and Lyon. 12 miles south of Laval east of the Rhone we destroyed 2000 lorries, 110 guns and a number of horse drawn vehicles. The small island of Cézembre was bombed today by Halifaxes. It lies off St. Malo and Marauders
