had to clear the mines offshore.

Not a single ship was lost.
Tanks and mobile guns pushed
inland to the town and Japanese
held airfields and there is hard fighting
3 miles inland. Australian naval
units and aircraft also took part.
The landing force was the largest
employed in the Pacific and President
Roosevelt sent a message to President
Osmeña of the Philippines. Chiang Kai-shek
also sent a congratulation
message to President Roosevelt.
In Britain more clothes and furniture
may come soon and before long there
will be more biscuits on sale now army
