firing Typhoons broke up a concentration
of German tanks. 2 columns, 1 British
and 1 American are getting closer to
the Meuse and driving across the
Meurthe [?] and toward the frontier town
of Venlo. Our main enemy here is
the mud. 6 1/2 km south of Venray
we have joined with the column
across the Deurne Canal. In this
sector and on the Scheldt 3000 prisoners
were taken during the past week.
Along the whole Western front there have
been heavy rains during the last 24
hours. Between Lunéville and Belfort
we have pressed deeper into the Vosges.
In Aachen there is still stubborn
house to house fighting and the Americans
now hold half of the ruined city.
More than 1000 American heavies
escorted by some 700 Mustangs and
Lightning today attacked the
railway yards and war industries
in the Mainz and Ludwigshafen
areas today. Our Mosquitoes were also
over Ludwigshafen last night.
In Italy we are two miles from Cesena
near which place the British 8th
