Germany was also attacked last night.
In the fierce engagements off the Dutch
coast a minesweeper was also sunk
and several other ships damaged.
All ours returned safely but we had
one casualty. The talks between Mr.
Churchill and Marshal Stalin lasted
till 3 o'clock this morning. In and
around Riga the Germans are losing
many ships. Only the last few miles of
Ösel have to be cleared. The Northern
frontier of East Prussia is gravely threatened.
27 tanks and 9 road convoy of some 100
lorries were captured. 4000 German
dead were counted in one town alone.
The Germans today speak about attacks
toward the Insterburg gap. In Hungary
the Russians are half way between
the Hungarian border and Budapest.
3000 troops were killed and over 140
planes captured. 8000 prisoners were
taken in 3 days. Across the Tisza railway
towns have been taken on the Western
bank of the river. The Polish Government
has notified the British Government
that they have received reliable information
