Northeast of the town further ground was gained and the suburbs of Haaren was attacked this morning. North of Metz a German counterattack was slung back. 4 towns between Nancy and Pont-à-Mousson have been taken as well as several hundred prisoners. The Canadian bridgehead on the Leopold Canal is now 3 1/2 miles wide and nowhere less than 400 yards deep. In the last few days 30 German counterattacks against it have been thrown back. Typhoons silenced the guns for 50 minutes. In the advance north of Antwerp it looks as if the Germans are going to make a stand south of Bergen op Zoom. The uneasy quiet around Nijmegen continues.
