and the correspondent said the attacks
range from the Baltic to Breslau and
Leipzig and from Emmerich and Cleve to
Vienna. The forces attacking Western
Germany met no fighter opposition but
flak was heavy. On the 11 targets attacked
between 7000 and 8000 tons of bombs
may have been dropped. No single
target will have got less than 500 tons.
It is the first terrible token for what may
happen. The Germans no longer have
sufficient fighter strength. There is only
fragmentary new about the Greek
mainland but in the Peloponnese
Tripolis and Kalamáta have been
liberated. The Germans are said to
have beached the Corinth canal by sinking
ships and two bridges over it were blown
up by them. The Greek island of Levitha
has also been occupied and Samos
was occupied without casualties.
Milos, Crete and Corfu's batteries
have been bombarded by our cruisers.
A correspondent who landed with the
forces gave his impressions. Everybody in
Greece is in rags and everybody is hungry.
