There are still five Italian divisions
who escaped from the West of Sicily.
The Germans use the Italians chiefly for
labour purposes, digging trenches etc.
5 of the enemy's aircraft were destroyed in
air attacks and 3 of ours are missing.
Yesterday 50 villages were captured by the
Russians in the Orel sector. Fierce fighting
is reported especially north of Orel.
German counterattacks to the east of
Orel are reported. On the other fronts there is
only local action.
In the SW. Pacific the Americans are
pressing on. Salamana got the heaviest
hammering so far.
American Liberators bombed Wake Island.
