Second British Army is making slow progress
but further to the West British troops are within
1 mile of Condé. The fighting in the Brittany
peninsula is dying down. The 3rd American
Army under General Patton however made
progress in Brittany. At midday today
some 1100 RAF planes bombed 5 night
airfields in Holland and 4 in Belgium.
Between 750 and 1000 American heavies
also went to Cologne, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt
and targets in Belgium and France.
The Red Army has already forced the
river Bóbr northeast of Dowiec [?] before
storming the town. German forces in
Latvia and Estonia have asked for seaborne
supplies but Russian U-boats are operating
off these coasts. U-boats have been transferred
by the Russians from the Black Sea to the
Baltic by inland waterways. Conditions
at Florence are improving but there is still
sniping. American planes made over
2000 sorties yesterday. One was destroyed and
10 are missing. 1 announcement
that books and periodicals are wanted
for the troops.
