Activity with flying bombs continued last
night and this morning. The biggest advance
the Russians made is 15 miles in Estonia
where 200 places were captured.
The Soviet advance into Central Latvia
continues. 50 places were captured.
The Russian salient toward Riga has been
strengthened and widened. Advances
were also made beyond Bialystok.
The Russian raided Lyck. Across the
Vistula the bridgehead had again been
widened and advances were again
reported along the railway from Bialystok
to Warsaw.
Our heavies in Italy were kept grounded
and only 500 flights were made over
N. Italy, Yugoslavia and Southern France.
1 aircraft is missing. We have raided
various islands in the Adriatic and
Greek forces in the Aegean. 14th Army
troops are now 7 miles from the Burma
border. Mitchells attacked shipping
at Halmahera and secured successes.
Heavies bombed targets in the Vulcano
Islands. Mr. Churchill made an
appeal for books and magazines for
the troops.
