Marauders made a strong attack on the
city of Caen which is on fire.
Thunderbolts were active between Cherbourg
and Carentan and also inland from
Bayeux. 750 escorted Fortresses and Liberators
attacked railway targets and airfields 100 to
150 miles beyond the beachhead. Several hundred
German prisoners arrived here. General
Eisenhower spoke about the progress of the
campaign and said that the landings were
made as planned. In Italy the 5th Army
is pressing on very vigorously. Kesselring's
14th Army is retreating in disorder.
For the 8th Army the going is heavier. 160 lorries
were destroyed by our aircraft yesterday.
Life in Rome is getting back to normal.
Gas, electricity and water is available.
The food situation is also fairly well.

to have attacked at Jassy. In Burma the
Japanese are withdrawing to the southwest
of Kohima. Bangkok the capital of Siam
