3 German planes were destroyed in raids on
this country last night. In Italy 5th Army
troops are making rapid progress north
of Rome in the direction of Civitavecchia
but the 8th Army is meeting strong rearguard
resistance northeast of the capital.
In the South West Pacific American
troops have captured Mokmer airfield
on Biak Island off the North coast of
Dutch New Guinea. The Americans are
now striking towards ....[?] airfield
east of Mokmer. The German push
on the Rumanian front north and
northwest of Jassy showed signs of
weakening yesterday.
