The 3rd German attack against our beachhead
seems to have started Monday night.
Greek patriots led by a British officer have
wrecked a train killing 400 troops.
Marauders have for a loss of 13 planes
dropped 3200 tons of bombs. The
Finns had nothing to say about the
armistice conditions offered to them.
Heavy fighting took place at noon yesterday
10 miles inland from Anzio where the
Germans attacked with tanks and
infantry and which seems to be a
major operation. On Monday patrols
were active. A terrific artillery barrage
was used by the Germans and heavy
exchanges of artillery continue in the
beachhead. The long range shelling of the
port of Anzio had reached a new pitch
with a shell falling about every 5
minutes.On the main front patrols
continue as well as artillery duels.
On the 8th Army front the position is
similar. The railways near Rome and
Viterbo airfield north of the capital were
bombed. A German armoured train
has been wrecked in Greece. It was known
