Troops of the 5th Army have made further
advances in the mountains of Central
Italy West of Cassino and are through the
German lines over a width of several
miles.
The extent of our beachhead south of Rome
is 14 miles long and an average depth of
8 miles.
On the main 5th Army fronts American
and French troops have made further
advances west of Cassino and are through
the German Gustav line over several
miles in the mountains.
Fierce fighting is in progress on our
beachhead south of Rome.
American and British troops have
advanced. Allied bombers have attacked
an oil refinery at Trieste. Yesterday
weather was too bad for flying on large
scale. 5 enemy planes were destroyed
against a loss of one of ours.
The Russians have broadened their
fronts in which they drive the Germans
westward and they are now a mile or
so from the Estonian border and 8
