In Italy fierce fighting has developed on
the fringe of our beachhead. General
Alexander's communique reports that
in the Anzio beachhead we have reached
the outskirts of two little towns 15
miles inland and our troops were
by Allied warships lying
off shore. Airfield in Southern Austria
and Northern Italy were again bombed
by heavy bombers. Klagenfurt being
the Austrian target.
French, American and British troops of
the 5th Army have again advanced
and the Germans have suffered heavy
losses in their counterattacks which
were repelled across the river Garigliano.
In the British Coastal sector we
obtained some high ground. Canadians
of the 8th Army have advanced in the
sector along the Adriatic Coast.
In all we destroyed in the air 18
enemy planes, besides a number
destroyed on the ground. Our planes
flew 800 sorties and we lost 4.
