troops are fighting well together. However
our men in Holland have to bail out their
boats. Norman MacDonald correspondent
in Stockholm said that German
reports about East Prussia are gloomy.
The Germans speak about terrible tank
battles and mad fighting. The Germans
are short of men and material. Against
Russian tanks they use anti aircraft
guns which they however cannot spare
against Russian planes. More
trenches are being dug but there is no
suggestion in Berlin reports that the
Russian advance can be halted.
On 23.10.1942 the great drive from El Alamein
was launched and Godfrey Talbot has
talked to some of the men who took
part. Men of the 8th Army who took part in
the battle of El Alamein are now
serving on the Western and Eastern fronts.
A Londoner who has been in all desert
campaigns spoke and also a Tyneside
driver who landed in 1941. In Western
Holland there are a unit of men from
Alamein. Field Marshall Montgomery
also spoke saying that the end cannot
